Shadow Museum (2018-21)

can be understood as an alternative approach to imagining a museum and arose from a collaboration between sideviews, the Jewish Museum Berlin and a group of students from Kreuzberg in Berlin over a number of years. Shadow Museum is a structure that develops proposals for museums with collections and with educational opportunities, to interact with local communities. Content, methods and artistic formats are developed and implemented collaboratively with youths and adults.

Shadow Museum is based on the concrete structures, needs and goals of each museum. When concurrent with an exhibition, for example, this opens up an experimental field that poses questions, offers space for dialogues, or an experimental set-up that involves different groups of visitors and incorporates their perspectives into the exhibition. Shadow Museum has continued to develop as an experimental set-up in the Berlinische Galerie since early 2019 and started to work with Haus der Kulturen der Welt and KW-Institute for Contemporary Art since 2020.
