WHAT’S GREEN?

The question ‘What is green?’ can be explored while dancing, singing, theatrically and also visually. Feel free to choose form and ‘material’ and experiment freely. Look for what ‘green’ means to you.

Villa Zebra is a visual arts institution for children aged 2-12 years in Rotterdam. The material for the intervention to investigate ‘What is green?’ is therefore visual.

We only offer the colors blue and yellow. What is green to you? More yellow more blue, is there a limit? Can the two colors separately also be experienced as green? What meaning does the color have for you? What associations does green evoke?

There is clay, wool, water, a prism spinning top, plastic plants, ink, cellophane, chalk, paint, paper. That which is made can be presented; there are things that can be a pedestal, a line, sticks, bags, clothespins. The workplace can be stimulating, rich in material. Depending on the target group, a choice can also be made.

The limitation to two colors offers the possibility to work in pairs. What happens if one only uses yellow and the other only uses blue, for example with paint on a sheet of paper? What happens in a collaboration? What if you start without saying or discussing anything beforehand?

This experiment is also suitable to do with adults, teachers. Then it can motivate a conversation about, for example, what arts education can bring about, what sustainability means, what sustainable education can be.
