THE STORY OF ME – IN OBJECTS

In this experiment we are dealing with identity and how we tell our stories without using words. Throughout our lives we are collecting items that mean something to us. Your parents might have saved your first pyjamas, shoe or teddy bear. Maybe you have a draw or a box with collected items that mean something special to you?

The experiment is about bringing life to the items around us and how these can communicate who we are and what is important to us – in a non-verbal universal way.

We involve the students in the experiment by getting them to collect items from home. In the classroom we reflect on what the collected items mean to the students themselves and what they communicate to others.

The students transform the items into personal installations. We discuss how the installations can be brought together in an exhibition based on more general themes related to identity, such as interests, values, relationships and important places.
