TEACH THE TEACHER

The entire team of a school experiences all kinds of experiments themselves (see, for example, From something/nothing, Re-use, What is green?, Artistic Strategies). This can create more awareness of the importance of art education. In an open discussion afterwards, together words can be given to this, a common language can be created.

Work with the entire team of a school for at least half a day. Let them experience different experiments themselves, so there is a good chance that everyone will feel attracted to something and can create in a free way. Choose low-threshold experiments, depending on the attitude of the teachers towards art education.

After each experiment, give the participants the opportunity to reflect briefly (also possible in writing). What have you done? What did you experience, what feelings did you have? What thoughts went through your mind? What process did you go through?

Spend plenty of time on joint reflection once everyone has experienced all the experiments. Various forms of work- and discussion forms can be used for this.

Depending on what the team wants to achieve, you can determine the importance of arts education together, what added value it has for the entire education and the development of children. What ‘good’ and sustainable art education can be.
