ONE WITH NATURE

The surroundings consisted of trees, shrubs, slippery rocks and a stream with rippling water. Even though it was autumn, the first snow had come on this day and there was a very thin white blanket over nature. In the classroom, students had to prepare to disguise themselves; they had theatrical make-up, leaves, branches, twigs, moss and fabrics to dress themselves with. Each couple then placed themselves in their chosen place outdoors and thus blended into nature. To help us, we had a photographer who photographed the students and these pictures became part of the exhibition at the museum in Örnsköldsvik. The purpose of the exercise was to allow students to use their imagination and ability to invent a narrative. We also wanted to give them access to experience the forest with all their senses, and even become a part of the forest for a short while.
